Artist Interview: Songbird

Meet Songbird, a rising star in the music industry known for her soulful voice and heartfelt performances. In this exclusive interview, Songbird shares her journey, inspirations, and future plans, giving fans a deeper look into her music and artistry.

Q. Growing up in Brick, New Jersey, how did your surroundings influence your music and artistic style?

A. My dad is a big reason why I’m into music. He would play in bands in his 20’s and still to this day! As kids he would play the wiggles songs that we would hear on TV and sing for us. I also fell in love with the show Hannah Montana and always said “that’s what I wanna do”. My mom suggested piano lessons and the rest is history!

Q. Your soulful voice and heartfelt performances have captivated audiences. Can you tell us about your vocal inspirations and how you developed your unique sound?

A. My biggest 3 inspirations are Sara Bareilles, Adele, and Lana Del Rey. Adele was my earliest one, “Someone Like You” was the first song I ever learned on piano. Sara and Lana I found through my competition singing group. My teacher gave me “Gravity” by Sara and “Young and Beautiful” by Lana. I feel if you listen to my music you’ll hear stuff from all three of these artist.

Q. With multiple awards and nominations, you've earned recognition in the industry. What does this validation mean to you, and how does it impact your music?

A. It honestly means so much. To know that what I’m doing with my life is being listened to and winning is insane. I’m so grateful for those opportunities and I’m just so happy that I get to do what I love. It makes me want to work harder and make music better than I ever had before. There’s always room to improve and become better at your craft.

Q. Your music resonates with listeners through powerful lyrics and dynamic melodies. Can you walk us through your songwriting process and what inspires your creativity?

A. Inlove writing lyrics first. If I’m out and words just come to me I write them down. But recently I’ve also love coming up with a feel for the song through chords and singing what comes first. Co writing is also so much fun and I’ve done that in a lot in Nashville!

Q. Your latest release, "Dry Land," is inspired by the Great White Shark. Can you elaborate on the symbolism  in this song and what message you hope listeners take away from it?

A. Sharks are one of my favorite animals, I even have a tattoo on my arm of one! Great Whites are my favorite, but I know they are the most dangerous. When we co-wrote this in Nashville, we looked up their behavior. One that stood out the most was solitary hunting. Learning more about the shark we decided to use it as a symbolism for whatever is dragging you down in your life. I hope that my listeners take away that they’re worth it, you may be drowning in deep waters, but one day you’ll find your dry land just keep looking and fighting.

Q. The song's theme of finding safety and dry land is relatable to many. Can you share a personal experience that influenced this song or one that you think resonates with your audience?

A. I’ve had some really awesome friends, but as I’m sure everyone else will agree I’ve had some not so great ones too. I felt like they were dragging me down and I was changing who I was. I hated the feeling and I just needed to do what was right for me and stop that relationship.

Q. How do you balance your artistic expression with the commercial aspects of the music industry, ensuring your music remains authentic?

A. I always make sure I’m writing for me and my listeners. What I mean by that is basing it off of what is going on in my life or someone around me that affects me personally. But also taking into account how my listeners would take it and trying to make it as relatable for anyone and everyone. That’s why I love “Dry Land” is broad and specific enough that anyone can relate.

Q. Your journey from a small town to a rising star is inspiring. What advice would you give to aspiring artists from similar backgrounds?

A. Never give up and be consistent. If this is what you love then FIGHT FOR IT! If you have a voice use it! I work 3 jobs to make this career work and I never give up. If heard no more times then yes, but I’m still here and I’m proud of how far I’ve come I believe you can do that too!

Q. Can you tell us about your favorite part of the music creation process—writing, recording, or performing—and why it's your favorite?

A. Can I say all of it? Haha! Seriously it’s all just so amazing. The process of music and then getting to share it is the best feeling in the world. I wish and hope one day I can do it solely every single day.

Q. How do you connect with your fans, and what role do you think social media plays in building your relationship with them?

A. Social media is a huge one, but I love talking through my music. I always say I want my listeners to feel heard and seen so I hope im doing a good job at that!

Q. When you aren't making music, what's your favorite thing to do?

A. I love to read! I’ve read 87 books this year so far! My goal is 115. I also love hanging out with my fiance we’re getting married this October so lots of wedding planning is going on behind the scenes!

Q. What drives your passion for music, and how do you stay motivated to continue creating and performing?

A. Music is just what I love to do. I don’t know who I’d be without it. I’ve had lessons my whole life and missed events for my passion. I would never change that. I’m constantly booking my own shows or working with others to get shows booked and making that consistent. I’m at the point where it is a job, but it never feels that way. I don’t think there will ever be a time when I’m unmotivated and not want this.

Q. Can you share any memorable moments or performances that stand out in your career so far?

A. At Launch Music Festival in Lancaster, PA this past April I performed “Pink Pony Club” by Chappell Roan. As I got to the chorus the entire crowd sang along. It was so cool and I hope that that happens with my own music one day!

Q.  Your authenticity and artistry inspire fans. How do you maintain your genuine voice and style in an ever-evolving industry?

A. I just make sure I’m writing what I want to write. I like to think outside of what everyone’s doing and make my music sound different and hopefully stand out.

Q. Looking ahead, what can fans expect from your future music releases, and are there any upcoming projects or collaborations you can hint at?

A. There will be more music later this year. Like I said before I get married this October so I have something super special that I can’t wait to share. Hopefully more to come after that as well. Keep an eye out and give me a follow I love new friends!
