Interview Collaboration: Paradoccs
Just like in music, collaboration is important in the journalism industry. TunezandTrendz is very excited for our collaboration with fellow female owned music blog Paradoccs! Read this exclusive interview to discover the making of Paradocs, the experience of being a woman owned journalism company, and exciting future plans!
1. What is Paradoccs? How did your blog come about and how did you come up with the name?
Paradoccs is a music blog that specializes in all genres with a focus on credibility and quality We only accept submissions that we love, so the reviews are always genuine. Paradoccs comes from the name of a book review site I made up for an assignment in a women writers class during college. Its supposed to be a fusion of "paradox" and "docs", with the flair of an extra "c". I created Paradoccs to preserve my passion after almost losing it when working for a popular blog
2. You're woman owned. How important is it to you to be making your mark in an industry dominated by men?
It's important for the industry to learn that women CAN tackle rigor, they ARE valuable, and they CAN be their own boss. It's hard work to strive for recognition in this industry, but what some people don't know is that women have an unimaginable drive and they're getting comfortable using it. I'm proud to be responsible for Paradoccs in its entirety, and even more proud to be empowering women along the way.
3. You've amassed a significant following on social media! How important is the social media side of the job for you?
Paradoccs made me aware of my social media shortcomings. Posting on instagram has been a challenge, but has taught me so many things. I think the most important thing is the writing itself, and the social media posts just make it easier for people to notice the work. It is especially important to find a balance between life and marketing so you don't get lost in the notifications.
4. What is your favorite part of the interview/creative process?
My favorite part of the creative process is finding the most accurate words to describe the way a sound or lyric makes you feel. It's so incredible how language can evoke feelings if crafted the right way, and there are endless combinations to explore. I also really enjoy the feedback I get from artists, it helps me keep going.
5. If you could work with any artist, who would be your dream interview?
I would give so much to work with The Wonder Years. Their message, sound, energy, and kindness stand out I've been to a few of their concerts when I had the chance, and it was just exhilarating I've heard from other bands that they're amazing people too. I've also wanted to get in touch with Molly Grace and work with her!
6. Apart from journalism, what are your hobbies?
I love to dance, bake, cook, and hike. I also am really into poetry!
7. What are you most looking forward to as you grow?
I'm most looking forward to the community and connections that Paradoccs could foster I'm looking to be a liaison between artists and listeners and to create a safe space for both on the Paradoccs page. Growth might really put our mission statement into motion.
8. Do you have any exciting interviews, reviews, or articles coming out that you'd like to share?
Paradoccs is coming out with a new set of recurring posts, similar to the +4 songs to the Great Big Playlist every Friday. We're trying to launch Paradoccs Press and the Surprise Series before August. I think these new additions will help artists and listeners come together on our page.
9. What advice would you give to other females wanting to take a chance in the musical journalism industry?
I would highlight the difference between "making it happen" and "watching it happen" and the dynamic between the two. It's important to know when to put all of your chips in, and when to stop playing for a bit. You want to find a way to fuel your "thing" that protects your well being.
10. Where can readers and artists find more about you?
You can find out more about Paradoces on paradoccsblog.com or @paradoccsblog on Instagram. We also have a cumulative playlist called The Great Big Playlist (GBP) that we add 4 stellar songs to every Friday to create the ultimate scrapbook of music.
