EP Review : Pink Bush by The Good Doods
"The Good Doods' new EP, Pink Bush, is a fun project with a bunch of diversity. What impressed me most is that, though The Good Doods are often to be considered a rap only band, I got hints of rock and country throughout the project. The EP starts with "Let it Wash", a track full of positive and uplifting energy. The outro emphasizes the inspiring message of the song with the lyrics "you can get it right, keep on keeping on". "Smoove" takes an approach that's both indie rock-ish mixed with rap. The song oddly enough reminds me of Hollywood's dreamy and peaceful depiction of Los Angeles, California.
The opening vocals on "This or That" have a country-like twang that any Southerner like myself would recognize, but at the end, it's more like a rock and roll song, especially with the lyrics "dance with the devil and dance with me". "Seamstress" is the most rap-like song on the album; it gave me a nostalgic feeling of a time when rap group Surfaces was big on the radio. "Chunga" is a fun love song that fans of Arctic Monkeys will truly enjoy. "Chunga" stands out the most on the album for giving me major indie rock vibes with those electrifying drums and guitars.
Overall, this album has a nostalgic mid-2000s to early 2010s vibe. The Good Doods masterfully mixed so many different aspects from different genres together to create a unique sound I've never heard before! If you're old enough to remember when the likes of Gym Class Heroes, Fun., or Neon Trees were all the rage, this EP will hit you with nostalgia and make you feel like you're back in the good old days.
